It's September, cozy sweater season, and that means reading season for me - so this morning I got sucked into purchasing a book off on IG. I'm sure you've been there.

Of course, a few minutes later the usual welcome email showed up in my inbox.

But this one was different. It went something like this:

"A little while ago, I received the notification that you just purchased my book…

…and I have to admit, it brought tears of joy to my eye.

"Darling, break out that champagne we’ve been saving for two years! Jill just bought the book!" I exclaimed to my wife.

After celebrating like a madman for a few minutes, I immediately called my best friend, Daniel Green, to share the exciting news.

Before I could even finish, Daniel shouted:

"Dude, I LOVE Jill! Such a great person, and I just know they're going to be your next big success story!"

I didn’t hear much else because, suddenly, a round of applause erupted in the neighborhood. People started dancing in the streets. Someone cranked up “Don’t Stop Believing” on a boombox, and even the UPS guy—who never smiles—was grinning ear to ear.

It was a celebration like no other… all because of YOU :)

I’m beyond excited to have you on board, Jill, and I know you’re going to get incredible value from my book!"

I laughed outloud. I wanted to hit reply (and still might) because WOW. WELL DONE. How often do sales emails elicit an actual laugh-out-loud response?

And I know it's a sales email. I know thousands of other people are getting the exact same mail.

But even so, I still laughed. I still felt special.

If this person could trigger me to laugh, to hit reply, to feel special, I knew it was someone I wanted to learn from. To hear from. The next time I see his name pop up in my inbox, I'm going to open that email. Fast.

You can do this with your own emails too. They don't have to be 'salesy'. They can be fun. They can make people laugh, or cry, or think. They can make people want more of you.

This is your sign to go through your welcome emails and add a little something extra to connect with your audience.
