nobody likes a sales pitch

Nobody likes a sales pitch. It’s icky. And often awkward on both sides.

I used to struggle to pitch. Even the word sounds uncomfortable. When you pitch you either hit or miss. There’s no in-between. Most of the time after three strikes - you’re out.

Like many online entrepreneurs I struggled to ‘convince’, ‘persuade’ and talk my potential clients into buying my products and services.

It wasn’t until i’d dragged myself through numerous agonizing pitches that i began to realize that my aversion to selling was rooted in a false idea that the customer and i were adversarial.

I realized that I’d been conditioned all my life to imagine selling as a battle where the buyer and the seller are at odds, each trying to outsmart the other. Each trying to get the best deal. Each trying to ‘win’ the other over.

In short, I was imagining - and then performing - an aggressive and confrontational exchange that didn’t have to happen.

The moment I realized my error, selling took on a different light. By reframing every ‘sales pitch’ as a conversation instead of an adversarial stand-off, I began to feel more calm and confident about what I was saying. Now when I pick up the phone or write an email to a potential client, it’s with the full understanding that I can help them. That they’ll benefit from my guidance. Most of all, that my products and services are in service to their needs. And that’s something I can talk about forever, passionately.

That’s what I want for you - to approach every aspect of selling with the same in-service mindset. To remind yourself before every call that what you’re doing is important, authentic and most of all something that will help the person on the other end of the line.

Focusing in on your unique expertise, skill-sets and desire to help can revolutionize how you approach selling in all aspects of your business, and radically change (for the better) how you connect with your customers over your website, email, and on social media.
